The press is in: Quality trumped Quantity at the Southeast Building Conference last week. Despite a smaller sized SEBC than previous years, the understandable reduction in quantity of exhibits and attendees was far surpassed by the outstanding level of quality in the overall builders’ conference experience. Kay Green Design can vouch for that!
Staying true to their mission to drive sales for builders, the Orlando-based Interior Design firm’s Kay Green and Ashley Jennings presented a 120 minute educational session titled “Powerful Merchandising in a Pinched Market.” The program dissected the desires and interests of three distinct home buyer groups that are on the foreground of housing’s currently active target markets: Baby Boomers, Generation X-ers and Green-Conscious buyers. They then shared Kay Green Design’s affordable merchandising techniques and valuable cost-effective design solutions that are driving sales for their clients.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Kay Green, in an effort to test the non-toxic promise of Sherwin Williams health-conscious low VOC paint, actually taste-tested the liquid paint samples on the SEBC trade show floor. Seriously! After confirmation of no crazy side effects, Kay Green can now confidently guarantee the nationwide paint company’s eco-friendly paint. Sherwin Williams filmed a segment, featuring Kay Green, on the “Greenovation” of the Terra Verde home in Umatilla, Florida at their booth 863 on the SEBC show floor. Weather Channel’s health consultant, Dr. Anna Marie, is spearheading the project, and Kay Green Design was brought on board the green renovation team for her expertise in making selections for their green-certified background finishes and features. Once complete, the project will be featured in national magazines and on television with start-to-finish footage of the Greenovation process.

No Parties at SEBC? Let’s Make Our Own! Kay Green couldn’t resist hosting a last minute networking reception opportunity. As part of the Terra Verde Greenovation team, Kay Green was pleasantly surprised to receive a special media-rate hotel suite at the Rosen Center. So at 5:30pm on Friday, the Rosen Center hotel’s VIP suite 2253, complete with a mini-kitchen and sitting parlor, transformed into a social hub for between 30 and 40 SEBC attendees, including some of the FHBA staff members. Guests indulged in a casual spread of snacks and refreshments, laughing and exchanging stories with friends in the business.
From casual conference loafers to grand ballroom glamorous high heels, Kay Green Design left footprints all over the Southeast Building Conference – including the Aurora Awards banquet. Honoring builders, developers, architects and designers across the 12 Southeast states, the Aurora Awards congratulated Kay Green Design as the design firm was honored with three awards for their interior merchandising of the Arrowstone model in Opelika, Alabama. Jerry Collin and Ashley Jennings of Kay Green Design accepted Aurora, Grand Aurora and Best in State awards on stage. The home, located in National Village, was built by Conner Bros. Construction Company Inc. and marketed by the talented team at Ingram and Associates.
Just when they thought the flurry of excitement surrounding SEBC was over as the Kay Green Design team returned to their office, they thought again. Kay Green received a phone call on Monday August 3rd congratulating her with the announcement that she had been chosen for induction into the FHBA Housing Hall of Fame. Led by a Board of Governors, the Hall of Fame honors men and women who have made significant and lasting contributions to housing in Florida, the building industry, and the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA). Kay Green will be inducted on October 30, 2009 at FHBA’s Annual Fall Conference at the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel in St. Petersburg.
