Kay Green Named Professional Woman of Achievement
Kay Green Design, Inc. / ORLANDO / October 18, 2007

Orlando's Women's Executive Council (WEC) honored Kay Green at their 37th annual Women's Achievement Awards banquet luncheon last Thursday, October 18th at the Citrus Club on the top floor of the Citrus Center. The WEC presented six scholarships to deserving women enrolled in local colleges; and recognized eight outstanding Orlando women for their hard work and contributions to the community. Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer attended the prestigious luncheon, sporting a pink tie in support of breast cancer awareness month.

Kay was selected among numerous nominations as an outstanding contributor to the professions, while the seven other honorees were recognized for their contributions to education, government, media, and community service. Marilyn Mennello, founder of The Mennello Museum of American Art, was granted an award (in memoriam) for her contributions to Arts and Culture.

In Kay's heartfelt acceptance speech, she told the story of when she first started her company. Kay reminisced that over 30 years ago, she told her father, "Dad, I am going to start an interior design firm and call it Kay Green Design." Her father cleverly responded, "What if I want my home to be a different color?"

Kay's humorous stories filled the banquet room with laughter, while her sincere expressions of gratitude moved every person to goose bumps. Kay said, "I'm so very proud to receive this award. As president of Kay Green Design, I am honored to have had the opportunity to contribute to my team's personal and professional growth." Kay's business partner and Vice President of Operations, Donna Tolliver, who has been with Kay Green Design for almost 20 years, attended the luncheon to celebrate Kay's accomplishments. Kay's daughter and Marketing Coordinator, Ashley Jennings, also attended to congratulate her.

The luncheon's keynote speaker, Nyda Bittmann-Neville, CEO and founder of TNB Consulting Group, Inc., spoke profoundly as she suggested that just as the WEC scholarship winners are standing on the shoulders of others to lift them up to a higher level of achievement, so has each successful individual in the room also stood on someone else's shoulders at some point in her life. Bittmann-Neville asked the room, "Whose shoulders are you standing on?"

I am sure that each person in the room thought of someone who made a long-lasting positive impact on her life. Donna Tolliver and Ashley Jennings both turned and thanked Kay Green for being the shoulders that they stand on. For all the hard work and love that Kay has put into her company and her staff, Kay is highly deserving of the honor the WEC granted her. We are happy to celebrate Kay Green as the 2007 recipient of the Women's Executive Council Professional Woman's Achievement Award.
