Florida Home Builders Association Person of the Week: Kay Green
Lynne Edwards / ORLANDO / Feb 28, 2006
Classy, intelligent, strong-minded and successful are just a few of the ways to describe Kay Green.
Since founding her business, Kay Green Design, Inc. in 1975, Kay has set her course full speed ahead and has not slowed down for even a minute.
Her firm has become one of the industry’s most respected in the fields of merchandising model homes, sales centers and recreational facilities. Her award-winning work can be found in many of the finest multi- and single-family communities around the United States and the Caribbean.
For Kay, the road to success represented a magical journey. “I can think of no other job more rewarding and fulfilling than one that gives individuals and families the dream of having a home of their own,” says Kay.
Involvement with her local, state and national home builders associations has always been important to Kay, beginning with her initial work with the Daytona Beach Area HBA (which has since become the Volusia County HBA).
Among Kay Green’s many awards is a recent Silver Award from the Best in American Living competition for Taylor Woodrow’s Grand Hampton in Tampa.
After moving from Daytona to Orlando, she dedicated herself to the work of the HBA of Metro Orlando, specifically helping recharge the association’s Merchandizing and Marketing Excellence (MAME) Awards.
From there, she took her ideas and energy to the Florida Home Builders Association, where she revitalized the state Sales and Marketing Council, twice chaired the Aurora Awards for design excellence, chaired the Excel Awards for sales and marketing achievements, and became a popular speaker at the FHBA-sponsored Southeast Building Conference (SEBC).
For her efforts, she was named FHBA’s 1988 Associate Member of the Year and the 1994 winner of the John P. Hall Award for career contributions to the new-home sales and marketing profession.
Hardly one to rest on her laurels, she advanced to the highest levels of leadership in the design and sales and marketing arenas of the National Association of Home Builders.
At NAHB, she chaired the National Sales and Marketing Council, traveled the country promoting and teaching courses related to the Member, Institute of Residential Marketing (MIRM) designation, and, most recently, chaired “The Nationals,” the NSMC’s prestigious awards program.
In 1991, she was inducted into the NAHB Hall of Honored Associate Members and in January, she won the Trina Ripley Excellence in Education Award from the National SMC.
The staff of Kay Green Design in Orlando specializes in model merchandising at some of the nation’s finest single- and multi-family communities.
Her firm is also never far from the winners’ circle. At the recent International Builders Show (IBS), Kay Green Design won two Silver Awards in “The Nationals” and the “Best in American Living” competition for merchandising performed for Taylor Woodrow Homes.
With all awards and accomplishments, Kay says none can match her two biggest achievements: twins Ashley and Aaron.
Now age 24, they have taken their mom’s drive for success and run with it on their own. Ashley recently graduated from Georgia Tech and has joined her mom in Orlando as an Executive Assistant. Aaron, who earned his Certified Marketing Professional (CMP) designation in January, sells real estate in Jacksonville.
As an accomplished professional, devoted association leader and proud parent, Kay Green has clearly created a legacy for success that will stand the test of time.
